4 types of stress response (fight, flight, freeze, fawn)

"Stress management is improtant for a happy and quality life."- Let's start with increasing our vocabulary, a little mental excercise. We shall learn about the word stress today. You already know what stress is as it is an integral part of our lives now. Most of us might be knowing what stress is, most of us don't know how to deal with and overcome it, so we struggle with it almost everyday. Managing stress us an important part of leading a life filled with mindfulness and happiness.

"Fight, a response to stress gets the body ready to fight the situation."- Stress is what we experience when in uncomfortable situations or events which make us respond to it in certain ways. Some common responses seen are fight, flight, freeze and fawn. As the name suggests, the fight response is when we experience danger and believe we can gain control of the situation. The brain sends signals to prepare for fighting demands. The signs would include tight jaw, glaring at people, feeling intense, desire to kick ot stomp, upset stomach etc.

"Flight makes the body be ready evade the danger situation."- Flight, another common response which occurs when we believe we can defeat the danger by running away. This becomes problematic when past trauma begin to paint out present reality. Thus might prevent us from navigating conflicts in a healthy and understanding way. Signs of this response include constant leg , dilated eyes, feeling trapped or tense, restless body that can't stop moving.

"While freeze makes you unable to neither act in self defense nor run away, fawn makes the body to lighten the mood by over agreement."- Freeze is another way our body would respond to stressful situations. When fight or flight seem out of the picture, then we freeze. We might experience dissociation or detachment. Sometimes it may help, other times it might do harm. Signs include pale skin, sense of dread, feeling numb or stiff, pounding heart etc. Fawn, discovered later and is mostly seen in people who grew in abusive families or situations. The person might try to calm the person by lightening the mood with self deprecating humor. Signs include over agreement, trying to be overly helpful etc.
