"Mental problems are not a weakness and is not a choice for anyone."- Mentalhealth has been one of the most debatable topics due to some myths that has been there always and thus making it difficult for the sufferers to actually seek help. For a long time mentalhealth has not been taken seriously and the sufferers not having the courage to speak to someone about what they've been going through. Mental problems are often seen as a sign of weakness which is not true as it is not a choice for anyone to choose to have this condition or not.


"Mental issues are common and can affect anyone regardless of intelligence."- Mental problems has been associated with a lot of myths about the people who suffer, the treatment and what not. Let us try to understand and debunk some of the common myths that have been doing rounds for long. The most common being that mental illness is rare, infact mental illness is much more common. Mental problem is proportional to low intelligence which is again very wrong as mentalhealth condition does not mean that a person has low intelligence as anyone can be affected with it regardless of intelligence.


"More than half of the conditions develop before the age of 24."- Some myths associated are regarding the age where kids are believed to not have any mental condition and are just mood swings caused by hormonal fluctuations. Infact, almost half of mental problems start before a person turns 14 and three quarters start before 24. Bad parenting is a cause of mental problem. Not true again as it can be due to various other factors like poverty, unemployment etc. Nor it is true that adolescents getting good grades and having cannot be affected as it depends on various biological and socially factors.


"Mentalhealth should be taken care of even if you're not having any mental condition."- Some myths like nothing can be done to help someone from developing a mental condition or that you only need to care for your mentalhealth when you have a mental condition whereas anyone can benefit by taking steps to improve their mentalhealth and strengthening social skills and emotional skills, warm family relationships and positive environment can help anyone to not develop mentalhealth condition.
