Piriformis syndrome

"Many problems can arise by just not doing simple stretching or long sittings."- Don't be sitting for longer periods whole you're at work, take short breaks every now and then. Sounds cliché because like we have read and heard this a lot of times, but this is something not to be neglected actually, as many problems can arise by not following this simple advice. One such problem that can be developed by not following this is what we will discuss today.

"Piriformis syndrome develops due to the compression of sciatic nerve by priirformis muscles."- Piriformis syndrome, since piriformis muscles are responsible for this, is a condition where the sciatic nerve is compressed by the piriformis muscles which results in inflammation, thus causing pain or numbness in buttocks and back of the leg. This condition is not as common but can be caused by overexcersing, performing repetitive motions, lifting something improperly, inuuring hip but or leg or sitting for longer periods of time.

"Feeling of numbness or pain in the butt or upper leg are the common symptoms."- When someone will have this condition they will generally feel aching, tingling, numbness, burning or pain in the butt, hip or upper leg. These symptoms can also worsen during activities like climbing stairs, walking, running or long sitting periods. The diagnosis for this can include Ultrasound, MRI etc. Generally, few weeks of rest, massages or excercise therapy at home is advised for pain management. Medications or physical therapy that involves stretching and strengthening the piriformis is also advised. Surgery us not advised until all other therapies fail.

"Warming up before excercises and not sitting for longer period can prevent this condition."- But noone wants to go through all the pain that comes with any conditions so some simple ways can be used to prevent this condition. Exercising daily, posture correction while driving or sitting. Also, warming up before activities and taking short breaks when sitting for longer periods help. Symptoms for the condition can relieve within days or weeks but can come back if you don't follow the doctor's instructions.
