Role of water in muscle health

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

Muscles, when we think about them the first picture we get is big bumps on the arms of people, that's what generally we think of on hearing muscles but muscles are actually soft tissues in out body and many stretchy fibres make up our muscles.

Water, as we have already known is really important for the best function of various parts and completing the day to day processes in our body. Now water importance is not just limited to that but it also helps building and maintain muscle health. So let's see how that happens. Water is of prime importance when it comes to joint lubrication as it is the key nutrient in making up of the synovial fluid, so less amount of water leads to lower amount of this fluid available to protect the joints which also leads to dry muscles. Now dry muscles can severely affect the performance and make us feel fatigued. Further, studies have shown that improper intake of water can negatively affect muscle performance and recovery. To have our muscles function at their topmost levels we need to hydrate ourselves so we have ample amount of electrolytes, hence more muscle strengthened control. Also dehydration can make the muscle recovery time longer and hydrating the body at proper intervals can speed up recovery pace and do away with feeling of soreness and eliminate body toxins. Lower levels of water in the body can increase our sensitivity to pain. Hydrating the body can increase pain bearing levels and endurance. So water is also important to keep our workouts heavy and build better and strong muscles.
