Tingling or numbness in feet ?Physiotherapy can help...

"Tingling is commonly felt when we sit in a position or keep our legs crossed for too long"

-Tingling in feet or what we commonly call as "sleeping of foot" or a feeling of pins and needles

is a sensation we get when we sit in a position for too long or we keep our legs crossed for long

causing blood flow blockage. This is the most common example of tingling in feet that is felt by

everyone for once atleast. It gets solved easily when we change positions or by doing posture correction.

For anything more serious, physiotherapy can help.

"Diabetes, can be one of the reasons for that tingling which is due to nerve damage."

-While tingling in feet is mostly not a serious problem, but if the tingling persists after we change the

positions accompanied by weakness or pain then it maybe be indicator of something serious. One of the reason

might be diabetes, most common serious problem, causing nerves damage and hence leading to tingling in feet.

Blood sugar level either too high or low can damage the nerves.

"Vitamin B12 deficiency or pinched nerve in the back can also cause tingling"

-Another common reason would be deficiency of B vitamins, particularly B12 vitamin. This is common in

people mostly above the age of 60. This can be cured by having foods like eggs, milk, salmon and cheese

that are rich in B12 vitamin. A pinched nerve in the back, one of the sciatic nerves that runs down the legs

can cause pain and numbness. This happens due to muscles or tendons that caused the tissue around the nerves

to compress which can be eased by physical therapy.

"Pregnancy and excessive alcohol consumption can also cause tingling."

-One of other reasons is pregnancy as when uterus grows it can put pressure on the nerves running down to the

legs which can be cured by following the excercise therapy advised by the doctor. Excessive alcohol consumption

can damage peripheral nerves causing tingling. Side effects from medicines can also cause tingling. Tarsal tunnel

syndrome caused by tibial nerve compression, which enters the bottom of foot can also cause tingling.

Conclusively, if the tingling in feet lasts for more than a few days then a doctor must be consulted as it could be persisting due to other unknown conditions at a physiotherapy clinic near you.
